Reuters, Peshawar: A vehicle carrying Shia Muslims was attacked in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the deaths of at least 40 people. The incident took place in the Khurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Parachinar district, located near with Afghanistan, frequently experiences violence. The Sunni and Shia Muslim communities in this area are often involved in conflicts over land and power.

Local police officer Azmat Ali stated that several vehicles in a convoy were traveling from Parachinar city to Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, when the attack occurred.
Aftab Alam's Statement Released
The convoy was attacked midway during the journey. Provincial Minister Aftab Alam stated that authorities are investigation to identify those involved in the attack. Meanwhile, Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi has described the shooting as a terrorist attack.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack, stating that those responsible for the killing of innocent civilians will not be spared
President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the incident strongly. In a post on X, he wrote, Attacking innocent passengers is cowardly and inhumane. The individuals responsible for this incident will be punished. The injured will receive medical assistance as needed.
35-year-old Mir Hussain, a resident of Khurram, also gave a statement in this matter. He said that he saw four gunmen emerge from a vehicle, and as soon as they got out, they started shooting at buses and cars.
