The Dhaka tribune newspaper reported on Tuesday that the press Information Department has canceled the accreditation of 167 journalists in three phases. Many experienced journalists and editors are included in this list, which has caused concern within the Editors Council.
According to a press release issued by the Council, although the Ministry of Information has the right to investigate any misuse of accreditation, we believe that revoking press cards without clear allegations of evidence sets a dangerous precedent. This action endangers press freedom and weakens the democratic environment.
