Due to the break, 125 trains were delayed by 20 minutes. The conductor only took a few minutes off, but his toilet break become costly for the passengers.
According to a report by the Korean Herald, a 4-minute toilet break taken by a train operator in Seoul led to at least 125 train being delayed, causing significant inconvenience for hundreds of passengers. This incident took place around 8 a.m. local time on Monday on Seoul's Line 2 when the train conductor, operating on the outer loop, made an unscheduled stop at a station.
The train operator took time to return.
Korea media reported that in Seoul, while the engineer was keeping an eye on the train, the operator ran down from the platform to reach the toilet. Since the toilet was on the second floor, the train operator took 4 minutes and 16 seconds to return to his cabin, causing a domino effect. According to Seoul Metro, after the stationary train, the next 125 train were rescheduled, many of which ran 20 minutes or more late from their original scheduled arrival time.
Usually, conductors on circular lines work for two to three hours without a break. While there are portable toilets for emergencies, staff members sometimes have to go to toilets away from the platform.
