On Saturday night, Trump posted on Truth Social, saying, I am proud to announce that Kashyap Kash Patel will serve as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Kash is an outstanding lawyer, investigator, and America First fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending justice, and protecting the American people.
Patel held senior positions during Trump's first term.
Patel, the son of Indian immigrants, previously worked in senior positions in defense and intelligent matters during Trump's first tern as a former Republican staffer. Last year, he promised to take action against Trump's political opponents and journalists. Charles Kupperman, former Deputy National Security Advisor of the US, spoke to The New York Times about Patel's loyalty to Trump. He said that in 2019, when Trump was facing public opposition, he called a meeting of top advisors in the Oval Office.
Among the four chairs placed in from of him, one seat, which was surprisingly small, was for Patel, a low-level employee. Patel has served as the Deputy Director of National Intelligence. Later, he become the Chief of Staff for the Acting Secretary of Defense. During the 2016 presidential election, Patel played a significant role in creating the four-page memo called the Nunes Memo about the investigation into Russia's alleged interference, which greatly impressed Trump.
Trump will take the oath of office as president in January 2025.
